The best soundbar in Canada for most people is the JBL Bar 500MK2, at $899.98. It comes with a 10-inch wireless sub and HDMI eARC with 4K passthrough, and it streams over every major service. Its 24 reviews from Canada average 4.83 stars, with none at one or two. On a budget, the TCL S45H ($118) fixes thin TV sound and decodes Atmos.
The Polk MagniFi Max AX SR scores higher, at 9.5, and adds rear speakers. But only 8 buyers in Canada have reviewed it, so it is our premium pick. Prices run from $118 to $1,449. For music in the backyard, see our Bluetooth speaker picks.

JBL Bar 500MK2
The Bar 500MK2 is the best all-round system for most living rooms. Its 10-inch wireless sub gives deep bass. It has HDMI eARC plus an HDMI input with 4K Dolby Vision passthrough. It streams over AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect and more. Its 24 reviews from Canada average 4.83 stars. The Atmos is virtual, so overhead effects are weaker.

Polk Audio MagniFi Max AX SR
Nothing here beats the MagniFi Max AX SR on paper. It is the only system with wireless rear speakers in the box, for real 7.1.2 surround. Two up-firing drivers add Atmos height, and a 10-inch sub handles bass. The catch is that only 8 buyers in Canada have reviewed it.
ProductHunter.ca compared 16 soundbars sold on Amazon.ca. We scored each one on its specs. That means the speakers inside, how real its Atmos is, how it hooks up to your TV, and what you get for the price. Then we read up to 100 recent reviews from buyers in Canada for each bar.
There are three tiers: budget (under $250), mid-range ($250 to $700) and premium ($700 and up). We left out 11 other bars. For many, Amazon.ca did not sell them itself, or no one in Canada had reviewed them.

Budget Picks
A budget bar fixes the thin sound of a flat TV. It is the right buy for a bedroom or a small living room. Most here are 2.0 bars with no sub, so do not expect deep bass. The Samsung HW-B550F is the one exception, with a wireless sub for $179.99.

It connects by HDMI ARC, optical or Bluetooth. It is a 2.0 bar with no sub, so bass is limited. Its 25 reviews from Canada average 4.12 stars.

Sonos Ray

The Sonos Ray is the smallest bar here at 56 cm. Its drivers fire forward, so it works inside a TV cabinet. The sound is clean and balanced. Premium Picks
Over $700 you are buying real home-theatre sound. Expect height channels, 10-inch subs and room tuning. Two of these bars ship without a sub, though, so budget extra if you want deep bass. On several of these listings, a third party holds the main Add to Cart button. Choose the Amazon.ca offer under Other sellers.
Polk Audio MagniFi Max AX SR

On paper nothing here beats the MagniFi Max AX SR. It is the only system with wireless rear speakers in the box, for real 7.1.2 surround. Sub, Rears or Atmos: What Your Room Needs
The box on a soundbar is full of numbers. Only a few of them change what you hear.
Real Atmos versus "Atmos decoding." Many bars say Dolby Atmos on the box but only decode the signal. They fake the height with processing. Real Atmos uses up-firing speakers that bounce sound off your ceiling. Here, that means the Samsung Q600F, Sony Bar 6, Bose Smart Ultra, Sonos Arc Ultra and Polk MagniFi Max. The JBL bars, Sonos Beam, Yamaha, Fire TV Soundbar Plus and TCL are virtual. Up-firing speakers need a flat ceiling about 2.4 to 3 m high. A sloped or very high ceiling weakens the effect.
HDMI eARC is the connection that matters. Plug the bar into the TV's HDMI port marked eARC or ARC. The HDMI group says eARC carries Dolby Atmos and uncompressed 5.1 and 7.1 audio. It also lets your TV remote run the bar's volume. Optical works for stereo but cannot carry Atmos from streaming apps. That is the main reason the optical-only Sonos Ray ranks low.
A centre channel is the best fix for mumbled dialogue. Hearing voices is the top reason people buy a soundbar. A bar with a dedicated centre channel helps most: the Samsung Q600F, Sony Bar 6, Fire TV Soundbar Plus and Polk. Every bar here also has a voice mode, so turn it on.
Sub or all-in-one? A separate wireless sub gives the deepest bass. A 10-inch driver, like those on the JBL Bar 500MK2 and the Polk, is a big step up from 6-inch units. In an apartment with shared walls, an all-in-one bar like the Yamaha SR-B30A is easier on the neighbours.
Match the bar to the TV. Aim for a bar no wider than your screen. Compact bars around 56 to 65 cm suit 40 to 50 inch TVs. The 117 cm Arc Ultra and 114 cm Polk are built for 65 inches and up. Still choosing the TV? See our picks for 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch sets.

Several of the best bars on paper are new in Canada. That makes them harder to judge. The Polk has just 8 reviews from Canada, the Sony Bar 6 and JBL Bar 300MK2 have 7 each, and the Samsung Q600F has 22.
We handle this the same way for every bar. A small number of reviews gets pulled toward the average for the whole field. A perfect score from 8 buyers is not the same as a strong score from 100. That is why the Polk, despite the best hardware score, sits behind the JBL Bar 500MK2 as our overall pick.
Watch who is selling. On the Polk, Sonos Ray, Beam and Arc Ultra listings, the main Add to Cart button belongs to a third-party seller. Amazon.ca sells the same item new for about the same price. Open "Other sellers on Amazon" and choose the Amazon.ca offer to get Amazon's return policy.
Bars we left out. Several had no real Amazon.ca offer. The Samsung HW-Q990F was sold only by a third party. The LG S60T and the ULTIMEA 5.1 shipped from the US with no reviews from Canada. Canadian warranty service on those is uncertain. Prices on Amazon.ca are shown before tax, and some provinces add an electronics recycling fee at checkout.

How We Research & Rank
| Criterion | Weight | Based On |
|---|---|---|
| Audio Hardware & Channel Layout | 30% | The physical speaker layout. A centre channel beats a 2.0 bar, a separate sub beats built-in bass, and included rears beat add-ons. |
| Immersive & Surround Capability | 15% | Real up-firing Atmos beats virtual Atmos, which beats no 3D sound. Included rears score highest. |
| Connectivity & TV Integration | 20% | HDMI eARC is the baseline. HDMI passthrough, Wi-Fi streaming and Bluetooth add points. Optical-only scores lowest. |
| Value for Price | 15% | Hardware per dollar at the Amazon.ca price, counting the cost of any sub or rears you would need to add. |
| Owner Satisfaction | 20% | Up to 100 recent reviews from buyers in Canada. We look at the average stars, the share of bad reviews and repeated faults. |
Scores are out of 10. Bars with few reviews from Canada are pulled toward the field average. That keeps a perfect score from 8 buyers from beating a solid record from 100.

The JBL Bar 500MK2, at $899.98 from Amazon.ca. It is a 5.1 system with a 10-inch wireless sub. It has HDMI eARC with 4K passthrough, and it streams from all the big music apps. Its 24 reviews from Canada average 4.83 stars, and none are one or two stars.
The Samsung HW-Q600F, at $399.99. It is a true 3.1.2 system with a centre channel, real up-firing Atmos and a wireless sub. No other bar here offers real Atmos for less. Its 22 reviews from Canada average 4.41 stars, and only 9% are one or two stars.
Only if you watch Atmos content and have a flat ceiling. Most films on Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Prime Video use it. Real Atmos needs up-firing speakers, like those on the Samsung Q600F. Virtual Atmos widens the sound but does not create real height.
Usually. Most bars connect by HDMI ARC or optical. If your TV has only red and white RCA outputs, choose a bar with an AUX input, like the Bose TV Speaker. Or buy a cheap converter. One owner in Canada found the Bose would not work with an RCA-only TV without one.
TV remotes control soundbars over HDMI-CEC. Connect the bar to the TV's HDMI ARC or eARC port and turn on CEC. Samsung calls it Anynet+, Sony calls it BRAVIA Sync and LG calls it SimpLink. Optical-only bars like the Sonos Ray must learn your TV remote instead.
For TV, not well. A portable speaker can lag over Bluetooth and has no centre channel for voices. A soundbar connects over HDMI and lets your TV remote run it. A speaker is the better buy for the backyard. See our Bluetooth speaker roundup.
Aim for a bar no wider than the TV. Compact bars like the Sonos Ray (56 cm) and Sonos Beam (65 cm) suit 40 to 50 inch TVs. The 117 cm Sonos Arc Ultra and 114 cm Polk are built for 65 inches and up.
